# Token

The Forgenie token is the utility and governance token within the protocol, playing a crucial role in powering and incentivizing development, drive user engagement, facilitate transactions, and promote a secure and thriving ecosystem. Its key utilities include:

1. **Governance**: Forgenie token holders have the power to participate in the governance of the protocol, voting on proposals and making decisions regarding upgrades, changes to the ecosystem, and other important aspects. This enables a decentralized decision-making process and ensures that the community drives the future development of the protocol.
2. **Auditor Staking**: Tokens must staked by Auditors to participate in the Facet auditing process and to consequently earn rewards for their efforts. Staking also serves as a security measure, as Auditors with malicious intentions can be penalized by having their staked tokens slashed.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of the Forgenie platform and align the incentives of all stakeholders, the token distribution will be executed through a vesting schedule spanning five years. This approach helps prevent market manipulation and encourages a focus on the platform's long-term growth and success.
